OTT PLS 500 Hydrostatic Probe
OTT PLS measures water level, depth, or pressure using a hydrostatic sensor with a ceramic membrane integrated with an advanced signal converter. Design features such as multiple communication outputs (SDI-12 or 4…20 mA), stainless steel housing, and a tensile-resistant cable make this sensor an ideal tool for water level monitoring in various applications.
ADVANTAGES
- The ceramic measurement cell stands out for its high mechanical resistance and top-level accuracy. Unlike typical metal membranes, it is not prone to deformation after prolonged use, ensuring measurement stability.
- Durable design: the ceramic cell is highly resistant to overload (withstands pressure five times greater than the nominal measurement range). The device housing is made of high-quality corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The probe is well-suited even for installation in seawater.
- Built-in microprocessor: compensates for the temperature effect on measurements and adjusts for gravity and water density variations.
- Atmospheric pressure compensation through a capillary tube connected to the sensor eliminates its influence on the level measurement.
- The highly durable cable is equipped with a Kevlar core to stabilize length.
- Simple configuration and connection to an external data logger with SDI-12 or 4–20 mA input interface.
- Optimal measurement resolution — the ability to assign the 4–20 mA output signal to the portion of the measurement range needed for the installation.
- The probe can also output water temperature (only with SDI-12 interface).
APPLICATIONS
Surface and groundwater level measurement in various conditions, including:
- Areas with steep banks, such as flood levees
- Pipes and piezometers with a small diameter (from 1 inch)
- Hydrotechnical structures, weirs, and irrigation systems
- Water channels that periodically freeze
- Seawater and inland waters
- Water channels that periodically dry out (e.g., retention reservoirs)
OTT CBS Pneumatic Level Sensor
OTT CBS is a pneumatic sensor for surface water level, known for its compact design, measurement accuracy, and very low energy consumption. OTT CBS meets USGS (United States Geological Survey) requirements for measurement accuracy and long-term stability. The sensor has both SDI-12 digital output and 4-20 mA current output.
ADVANTAGES
- High measurement accuracy — meets USGS (United States Geological Survey) requirements for water level measurement accuracy and long-term stability
- Comprehensive solution in a single device — combining the OTT CBS sensor with the EPS-50 bubbler head eliminates wave interference, ensuring clean measurement data
- Maintenance-free — does not require desiccant replacement, pneumatic component maintenance, or lubrication
- Easy configuration and setup — configuration via micro-switches, connection to existing measurement installations using a 3/8” or 4 mm outer diameter capillary (no mounting adapters required)
- Compact — small, efficient micro-pump motor provides sufficient performance for bubbler method measurement
- Low energy consumption — intelligent measurement procedure; the sensor compares the previous measurement result with the current pressure value to adjust the air pumping time (small level changes are measured during very short pump cycles)
APPLICATIONS
Water level measurement in:
- rivers, streams, watercourses, natural and artificial channels
- groundwater wells and piezometers
- retention reservoirs, lakes, floodplains
Ideal for monitoring:
- in water level observation networks
- in areas prone to lightning strikes
- in channels and watercourses with long and flat embankments
OTT RLS Radar Level Sensor
OTT RLS is a non-contact level sensor using pulse radar technology. OTT RLS offers a wide measurement range with a very small dead zone and a highly focused beam. It can be easily connected to most data loggers. The RLS has exceptionally low power consumption and is ideal for remote locations powered by solar energy.
ADVANTAGES
- No measurement drift over time
- High accuracy measurement — the device is insensitive to air temperature changes, relative humidity, flooding during storms, and damage from floating debris — minimizing the risk of data loss
- Maintenance-free — the transmitting and receiving antenna surface is flat and smooth, preventing the buildup of dirt and eliminating the need for frequent cleaning or maintenance
- Flexible integration with measurement systems and easy configuration — the sensor works with most data loggers using standard interfaces such as SDI-12 or 4–20 mA — configuration and operation do not require specialized software
- Easy installation — the device is lightweight and compact, making it easy to mount on bridge structures, booms, or small brackets
- Low-profile housing — compact dimensions and a discreet appearance make it ideal for use in urban monitoring stations or areas prone to vandalism
- Low power consumption — the device is perfect for remote locations without electrical infrastructure and solar-powered installations, requiring only 12 mA in active mode
APPLICATIONS
Surface water level measurement:
- rivers, streams, watercourses
- tidal zones
- reservoirs and lakes
Ideal for monitoring:
- surface water levels in flood-prone areas
- streams, rivers, and watercourses with sediment or solid objects

Additional Information
Data Visualization from Sensors and All-in-One Devices
Data from the devices can be analyzed through the Rainbrain application. It is a modern platform for visualization and analysis of measurement data from various types of hydrometric devices, including sensors and all-in-one devices.
- Hydrostatic – the sensor measures the pressure of the water column above the sensor’s active element,
- Radar – the radar sends electromagnetic waves to determine its distance from the water surface,
- Pneumatic – water level is determined by measuring the air pressure generated in the measurement capillary by an integrated micro-pump in the sensor.
