Implementation of GIShub Software in the City of Lubin

Challenge

The small team responsible for managing the drainage system in Lubin was already operating at full capacity. Water discharge fee settlements with Polish Waters, tenders, maintenance commissioning, and investments all had to be handled simultaneously. Maps, spreadsheets, various files and databases made day-to-day operations increasingly difficult to manage efficiently. The lack of a single, coherent geospatial database prevented modern network management, while costs continued to rise.

Solution

The city purchased our GIShub application in the Operations and Fees modules. We began the work with a full inventory of the entire drainage network. GIShub was populated with information from the parameterisation of manholes, outlets, junctions, service connections, pipes, separators, tanks, as well as renovation plans and locations where trenchless liner rehabilitation had been carried out. Everything was brought together in one place, easily accessible to everyone at the city office, with no user limit. In the Fees module, we introduced land cover data for the entire city, divided into 72 catchments. The Fees module was also correlated with data from two rain gauges, and thanks to a modern methodology, it was possible to significantly reduce the fees.

Benefits

City staff gained a reliable database with up-to-date information, with all data related to stormwater and its management available in one place. The fee calculation process was fully automated. By linking the Fees module, which calculates the impervious area for each plot, with rain gauge data, the city achieved fee savings of 40%. GIShub provides a dynamic view of every location in the city, enables information to be added in one place, and allows the generation of individual reports.
